The University needs to know about academic concerns and issues so that it can improve thee quality of the learning experience for all students. The Students' Union supports all Course Reps by providing training and organising the Course Reps' Forum. You'll find out more about Course Reps during your introduction. Hello Course Reps thank you to those who attended the training sessions last week, it was good to see your faces and apologies for the 4.15 start times! As I alluded to in the training sessions we now want to elect 2 Institute Reps from you Course Reps. So we need 2 Institute Reps from the Worcester Business School, Institute of Science & The Environment, Institute of Sports & Exercise Science, Institute of Health & Society and the Institute of Humanities & The Creative Arts. If you are unsure which course your institute falls under check with your tutor ASAP! Institute of Education Reps have been elected.
In a few weeks, with dates and times to be confirmed, we will be holding elections for the Institute Reps. These elections will be done institute by institute with it being more than likely that elections will take place around lunchtime as these are more appropriate times for people to be around than later in the afternoon. The elections will be conducted through a secret ballot, as this is the best and most efficient democratic manner to elect you.
What are Institute Reps?
As I detailed in previous emails Institute Reps are above course reps and sit on the highest boards within your Institute, called the Institute Board. You represent the views and concerns of your course reps, you also become an automatic member of Student Council and you sit on the Institute Rep committee chaired by myself, which is a committee for you to tell me to lobby the University on any particular issue affecting your institute! Make sense? Institute Reps are new for this year, and we hope they will be an effective and vital tool to make sure all academic staff are listening to your views.
How do I stand to be an Institute Rep?
You do not need to worry about this right now, as I am having a meeting with Ruth Christie the Membership Services Manager of the Students’ Union on the 3rd November to discuss the best way to do this, but it will be envisaged that it will involve you writing a short paragraph about why you would make a good Institute Rep, this will then be distributed and advertised to your fellow course reps who also represent students within your institution (i.e if you want to stand to be a Sports & Exercise Science Institute Rep then your “mini-manifesto” will be distributed to all course reps within the Institute of Sports & Exercise Science). But do not worry we will give you ample time to prepare yourselves, this is just an email for now to keep you aware of the latest developments regarding Institute Reps.
Please be aware that you can only stand to be an Institute Rep if you already a Course Rep
Finally, if you don’t think you have been getting my emails please email me asap on m.collins@worc.ac.uk to update me with your contact details and some people’s email addresses keep bouncing back!
Thanks!
