About us
We are a diverse group of dancers who all share a passion for dance and performance.
Our talented team of dance captains choreograph and teach a variety of routines during our open classes throughout the year. These classes are available to anyone! Come and try them out, even if you've never danced before! We offer recreational dance classes in Street, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and Contemporary.
During our competition season in March, we have seven competition teams that represent our university and compete around the country. If you're interested, please attend an open group audition in front of the dance captains. You can audition for as many teams as you wish, and on audition day, you will have the opportunity to be chosen for up to four of our competitive teams, which include Street, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Wildcard and Lyrical competition team.
There will also be many performance opportunities for every member of the society. Both our recreational classes and competition teams have the chance to perform in many fundraising events over the year. These include our annual Christmas and end of year Dance Showcases.
Like many other clubs and societies, we also meet up for social on a Wednesday evening! Each week has a theme, simply dress according and meet the rest of the team in the Students Union, our social secretaries take care of the rest! Be prepared for an evening of fun as we take part in many drinking games before dancing the night away in Tramps.
Achievements
Over the last few years we have collected many titles and trophies.
In 2022 at the GHGH University Dance Championships and were successful in achieving 2nd place in Wildcard, 2nd place in Jazz, and 1st place in tap! We then travelled to the Royal Holloway dance competition where we placed Tap 1st, Street 1st, Jazz 2nd, and Contemporary 2nd! We rounded the 21/22 year off with winning 'Event of the Year' at the #TeamWorc Awards for our amazing Saints Strictly Come Dancing event.
In 2023, we returned to the GHGH University Dance Championships, and we achieved 3rd place Ballet, 3rd place in Jazz, 2nd place in Street and 1st place in our Wildcard piece 'Dancing through the decades'. We then travelled up to Liverpool University dance competition, and achieved 3rd places in our Jazz, Street and Tap teams. We ended our competition season attending University of Northampton dance competition, placing 3rd in Jazz. We ended the year with the return of our Saints Strictly Come Dancing Event and completed a Charity Football Match against Worcester Sinners Cheerleading raising £321.47 for charity.
In 2024, once again we had a very successful year! We attended Leeds Beckett University competition being awarded 1st in Tap, 1st in Lyrical, 1st in Contemporary, 2nd in Street, 2nd in Wildcard, 3rd in Ballet, 3rd in Jazz as well as some special awards of 2nd in Duo, 3rd in Improv and 1st for best male dancer of the day. The awards kept coming at our next competition attending Nottingham Trent University competition and won 1st in Contemporary, 3rd in Lyrical, 3rd in street 2nd in solo and 1st in the duo category which was also awarded best choreography for the whole competition! Finally, we returned to the GHGH University Dance Championships, and we achieved 1st place in Jazz, 1st place in lyrical, 2nd place in Ballet, 1st place in Tap, 1st place in our Wildcard piece ‘Here we go again’, 2nd place in Contemporary, 2nd place in Team Spirit and 3rd place in Peoples choice. This was an amazing competition for us and finished off our season winning a total of 24 trophies!
All of our dance classes take please in the Thomas Telford building (Room 5) which is located on St Johns Campus. Our timetable will commence w/c Monday 18th of September (TBC).
