Worcester Students’ Union run various campaigns to raise awareness about the climate emergency and empower students towards climate action.
As part of our Sustainable Development Goals, WSU is committed to taking urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. Throughout the year we run campaigns to encourage all students, staff, and the local community to take climate action.
You can take action by joining an environmental society or starting your own!
Our annual campaigns:
Go Green Week
Every year Worcester Go Green Week brings students, staff, and the local community together to share ways to live a sustainable life.
Go Green Week offers students the opportunity to organise a range of fun and engaging activities to raise awareness of sustainable living. From terrarium-making classes to cooking food with a low-carbon footprint, there are lots of opportunities to understand how you can take care of our planet.
Plastic free campus
We are working with partners across Worcester to try and reduce the amount of single use plastic on campus. Each year, we run a campaign around tackling these issues. Our current campaign focuses on reusable or plastic-free period products. We have partnered with Hey Girls to offer all students at the University of Worcester ethical period products. Green travel
We encourage all students and staff to consider their carbon footprint while traveling. Through regular campaigns, we raise awareness about ways to reduce environmental impact during travel to campus, placements, and in daily life.
To reduce carbon footprint while traveling:
- Choose Sustainable Transportation: Opt for walking, cycling, or public transportation. Carpool or use fuel-efficient vehicles if driving.
- Reduce Air Travel: Use trains or buses for shorter trips. Combine destinations to minimise flights.
- Offset Carbon Emissions: Purchase carbon offsets to support emission reduction projects.
- Pack Light: Reduce vehicle weight for improved fuel efficiency.
- Choose Direct Routes
- Practice Sustainable Tourism: Stay in Eco-Friendly accommodations, respect local communities and support sustainable businesses.
