Fairtrade is an ethical certification and movement aimed at ensuring that producers in developing countries receive fair wages and work under safe, equitable conditions.
It focuses on promoting sustainability, environmental protection, and community development. By supporting fair trade products, consumers help create better trading conditions for farmers and workers.

The Fairtrade logo is a globally recognised symbol that indicates a product has been certified to meet fair trade standards. It guarantees that the product was produced and traded according to principles of fairness, equity, and sustainability.

Fairtrade supports sustainability and tackles climate change by promoting eco-friendly farming practices, such as reducing pesticide use, conserving water, and protecting biodiversity. It helps farmers adapt to climate change through sustainable techniques and provides financial support via the Fairtrade Premium for climate-resilient projects. Additionally, Fairtrade empowers farmers with knowledge and resources to implement green practices, while advocating for policies that address both environmental and social impacts. Find out more.
Worcester Students’ union promises to prioritise Fairtrade suppliers where possible as explained in our Ethical Procurement guidance. Ethical procurement refers to the process of sourcing goods and services in a responsible manner that considers environmental, social, and economic impacts.

Fairtrade Fortnight is an annual, two-week campaign that promotes Fairtrade products and raises awareness about the importance of ethical trading. To mark Fairtrade Fortnight, Worcester Students' Union has partnered with Student Services for a special pop-up event called "Fancy a Fairtrade Cuppa." This event invites students to enjoy a Fairtrade drink while engaging in meaningful conversations about ethical procurement, well-being, and climate action. It’s a great opportunity to connect with others, share thoughts, and explore how sustainability and well-being go hand in hand.
