Food and sustainability are closely linked, with our food choices impacting the environment.
Opting for local, seasonal produce, reducing meat consumption, and minimising food waste through composting and using leftovers can lower our carbon footprint and conserve resources.
Find out how to make your food last longer, reduce waste and save money.
National Allotments Week is an annual celebration that highlights the importance of allotments in promoting sustainability, healthy living, and community engagement. Allotments provide space for individuals and communities to grow their own food, learn about sustainable gardening, and connect with nature. It’s a week dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of allotments and encouraging more people to get involved in growing their own produce.

- We have a Students’ Union composting bin and are working with the university to improve signage for student composting points and reduce food waste across campus.

At Worcester Students' Union, we recognise the importance of composting as a key part of reducing waste and promoting sustainability. We offer composting bins to staff at the Union and make use of the composting point at St John’s campus, which is also available for students to use.
Composting points are located behind the Hines Building at St John’s campus.
