Why did you become a Full Time Officer?
I applied for the role to challenge myself on the return to ‘normal’ after the pandemic. The role was not something I would have usually considered but I decided I wanted to try something new. I had an amazing time studying at UOW so I wanted to help more students to have a similar experience.
What did you get out of the experience?
I definitely grew in confidence and became more comfortable in situations I hadn't previously encountered. Overall, it really boosted by employability skills and gave me experience in a professional environment.
What are you doing now?
I've just completed my Master of Research in Geography and I hope to go travelling in the near future.

Why did you become a Full Time Officer?
I became increasingly involved with the Students’ Union during my time as a student, as a member of a Sports Club and as part of and Student Council. The role offered opportunities that you couldn’t match in any job in any sector, and there are few roles in which you can leave university and from day one be a Trustee of a Charity and Governor on the Board of a University.
What did you get out of the experience?
The range of experiences alone has helped me focus on what I want to do in future jobs. With the fantastic support the SU team provides, there’s loads you can achieve, and I felt I did!
What are you doing now?
I’m now the Student Voice and Advocacy Manager at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David Students’ Union, where I manage the Advice Service and the various Voice functions.

Jade Haley - SU President 2016-18
Why did you become a Full Time Officer?
If I had left University after my final year, I don’t think I would have been half the person I am today!
What did you get out of the experience?
Being an Officer was undeniably the best thing I have ever done. I got to do some of the most amazing things like discussing tuition fees live on Sky News and hosting a panel debate at the Hay Festival. I found a new confidence for public speaking and my organisational skills improved significantly.
What are you doing now?
I gained an MSc in Forensic Psychology and I am now an Investigator for the Police in a Child Abuse Investigations department.

Why did you become a Full Time Officer?
I 'd been involved in Worcester SU throughout my degree as a Trustee, on Student Council and as an NUS Delegate. It made the role of VP really appealing to me, and I got the bug for student politics. It seems like a small world in Worcester, but I quickly realised that the SU Leadership have a massive impact on students’ lives every day.
What did you get out of the experience?
My whole career! I learnt how to influence, negotiate, network, how to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things. I also learned how to lead and how to be a good colleague, which has helped in every role.
What are you doing now?
I am Head of Talent for the National Union of Students, which means I get to work with amazing people every day, and lead passionate and dedicated teams.
