Your National Voice
As your Students' Union, we also have a responsibility to ensure your voice is heard nationally. We do this by ensuring we feed into any relevant national campaigns, national round-tables, attending national events and making sure our Officers and staff are up-to-date and where possible, involved in national policies. One way we do this is by being a member of NUS UK and NUS Charity. You can find out more about these organisations below:
NUS UK
NUS UK is a confederate association of around 400 students’ unions, representing the interests of more than seven million students. Around 95 per cent of all students’ unions throughout the country are affiliated to NUS, ranging from those based at small specialist colleges through to general further education colleges, large universities and higher education colleges.
NUS is your national union representing university and college students across the UK. Together we achieve national change for students.
Current NUS UK campaigns include Voter ID, Cost of Living & Free Transport.
NUS UK National Conference 2024
Ruttuja Mane (President 2024-25) and Elliot Atkinson (Vice President Education 2024-25) attended NUS National Conference prior to beginning their roles in Blackpool on 18th and 19th April 2024 representing students at University of Worcester. Prior to National Conference, the below five policy proposals plus amendments were bought to council, these policies focused on:
- International Students
- Funding, Food & Housing
- Solidarity with the people of Palestine
- Increased Further Education Representation
- Reforming NUS
Ruttuja attended the sessions on International Student Equality. There were mutliple topics discussed that are the most challenging one for today's student population, like the 20 hour working limit, cash in hand jobs, expenses to show when applying for visas etc. Elliot attended sessions on the Funding, Food & Shelter policy. Topics that were discussed in these sessions were around cost-of-living, housing and the cost of food. The other sessions attended by Ruttuja and Elliot were focused on fighting back against antisemitism & islamophobia on our campuses which was a panel discussion, and the impending general election on how to talk to your MP and how to influence local decision makers.

NUS Charity
Through our membership with NUS Charity we have access to support, training and advice services – alongside an opportunity to work with NUS to shape the future of the student movement. NUS UK and NUS Charity work side by side with a common purpose: to make our education, and our world, better through the collective power of students. NUS Charity aims to develop and champion strong students’ unions through advice, guidance and crisis support. They connect members and curate services. For members who trade, they also help students’ unions to make the most of their commercial enterprise income.
